I went to Boston yesterday for a scheduled appointment, and I took snacks to hand out to the unhoused homeless. If you think the unhoused homeless situation is bad in Manchester imagine what it is like in Boston and in the bigger cities. I have seen it and have worked with it.
Ten years ago, I worked as a counselor and coach in Portland, Oregon working with homeless veterans living on the streets, and it was bad there then. It’s much worse now so my friends tell me.
What’s the solution to chronic homelessness? A greater awareness of the situation and a public, private, and individual commitment to doing something about it.
We must address the need for affordable housing, even if just the ‘tiny home’ approach, and we must create workable solutions to address the issue of addiction and what it is doing to our society. It all starts with caring and showing empathy and support for people who desperately need it.
